Aerobic Granular Sludge Technology for Wastewater Treatment
Aerobic Granular Sludge (AGS) Technology is an innovative wastewater treatment technology which provides advanced biological treatment leveraging on the unique features of aerobic granular biomass. First adopted in Hong Kong at YLEPP, AGS treatment process improves and enhances biological nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) removal when compared to the conventional activated sludge systems. In addition, results from full-scale AGS treatment plants demonstrate that aerobic granular sludge provides numerous additional unique advantages as compared to the conventional activated sludge systems, including:
Aerobic Granules
Reduction in treatment system footprints as a result of higher reactor biomass concentrations and the fast settling;
Energy saving due to the reduced use of mechanical equipment, like mixers, recycle pumps, etc.
Easy operation resulting from a simpler process configuration, automation and the resilience of the granules against less favorable process conditions.
