The existing Yuen Long Sewage Treatment Works (YLSTW) commissioned in 1984 serves Yuen Long Town, Yuen Long Industrial Estate and Kam Tin areas with a design capacity of 70,000m³ per day. To cater for population growth and development needs of Hong Kong and to safeguard public health and protect the environment, we need to increase the treatment capacity and to upgrade YLSTW into Yuen Long Effluent Polishing Plant (YLEPP) with sewage treatment level at tertiary effluent polishing standard.

This project will increase the treatment capacity of Yuen Long Sewage Treatment Works to 100,000m³ (in Stage 1) and 150,000m³ (in Stage 2) per day. With the increase in sewage treatment volume, we will enhance treatment level at tertiary effluent polishing standard to ensure that its discharge will comply with more stringent environmental requirements, thus protecting the ecological setting of Deep Bay.
